Austin & Marissa’s surprise proposal at the Lincoln Memorial was so endearing. Although at times the Lincoln can produce heavy traffic it certainly offers epic views. I believe its ability to see some of Washington’s DC’s most visited locations has it feeling like the ultimate choice.
Austin’s focus was the Washington Monument as his backdrop and although cold it turned out to be a great experience. The area wasn’t overly populated and was noted as one of their places to visit on occasion.
Pro Tip: When planning a surprise proposal at the Lincoln Memorial be specific about the exact spot at which the proposal will take place, what you will be wearing and if you will have others joining you that could be the point of contact for your photographer.
Once I spotted the two of them approaching I could see the nervousness on Austin’s face. The couple was holding hands and walking rather swiftly in my direction. As Austin reached a safe distance away he quickly dropped to one knee and confessed his love and popped the question!?! Marissa was surprised although slightly suspicious of Austin’s behavior that day and of course “She said YES”!!! I always ask the ladies if they were actually surprised, I love the element of surprise.
After the celebratory hugs and kisses were exchanged amongst the two of them, we moved into capturing some engagement photos. I like to combine my poses with genuine candor to ease into my sessions. This allows me to gather an idea of my clients personalities, how they interact, and what poses they may or may not be comfortable with.
Austin and Marissa was a young, fun and energetic couple and I had so much fun with them even though we had just actually met. My interactive posing and questioning allowed for the session to end stress free on a great note. I wish Austin & Marissa nothing but the best and hope their 2022 wedding is a dream come true!!!
